The Steam gaming platform relies on personalized news feeds. Valve has introduced new functionality for the store. It allows you to track news on interesting games.
The new tool is called: News Hub (aka News Center). This is the ninth experimental project presented as part of the Steam Lab, where Valve is testing new ideas for the platform.
News Hub allows you to assemble a news feed in Steam itself, based on the type of publications and their source. The type refers to the nature of the news (event, release, update, sale, and so on). As for the type of source, here we are talking about which games in the feed we are talking about (those in the library, in the wishlist, or, for example, to which the user is subscribed).
Thanks to the functionality, it is easy to find out about the news of interesting games. This is a full-fledged aggregator of internal information events, collecting an individual feed for each specific player.
It is assumed that the new features will be actively used, including in the mobile version of Steam. As Valve writes:
Wherever you are — at work, on the road or at home playing, you can use the personalized hub to easily find updates, announcements and events on the games in which you spend time and are interested in.
In the near future, Valve plans to add more filters for the News Hub, as well as a more ergonomic front page, which will display all the most relevant events.
Steam pulls up the news itself from the pages of games. Recall that in September Steam introduced an updated toolkit for developers. He offered more flexible options for writing news about his games in the store: new text formatting tools, image and video insertion, as well as news classification by character.
