Italy ranks tenth in the world in terms of gaming market revenue. Italians will spend $2 billion on games this year, Newzoo predicts. If Newzoo’s forecast comes true, it will mean that the market has grown by $0.2 billion over the year — last year it was estimated at $1.8 billion.

The population of the country is 60 million people, of which, according to analysts, 26 million are players.

Mobile is the most popular platform among Italian gamers. 56% of men and 53% of women launch games on it at least once a month. About 40% of gamers play on the desktop, a third of players use consoles.

65% of the paying audience are gamers who have spent money on in-game purchases over the past six months. Interestingly, DLC and add-ons to games are more often bought by men than women: 31% vs. 24%.

Less than half of Italian users watch gaming content on the Internet – 42%.

8% of those who know about this phenomenon are fond of esports. As befits a country that has won the World Cup four times, the most popular esports franchise in Italy is FIFA.
