Australia currently ranks 14th in the world in terms of player spending, Newzoo analysts have calculated. The total revenue of the market in 2018 will be $1.3 billion.
Of the country’s 24 million residents, just over half, 12.4 million, play games.
Among Australian Internet users, 44% of men and 42% of women play mobile games at least once a month. Among console gamers, there are almost twice as many men as women. On a PC, this gap is smaller.
55% of the paying audience has bought in-game items or resources in the last six months. Moreover, a quarter of paying men bought DLC for games, and among women a quarter paid for power-ups.
Video content dedicated to games is not very popular in the country – only a quarter of the audience watches it.
The audience of esports in Australia is also not very large yet. Of all the users who know about esports, only 5% watch competitions. The most popular esports franchise in the country is Call of Duty.
