On the eve of E3, Google has published a presentation of the cloud gaming service Stadia. In it, Google revealed the details of the service, which was first introduced in March this year. We share the published details of the presentation.

The most important thing

Stadia will have two content distribution models at the time of launch. One is called Stadia Base, within which the user will be able to buy games and play them over the cloud on a suitable device. The second model is subscription. It’s called Stadia Pro and will cost $9.99 per month. As part of the subscription, users will have limited access to the library (new items will have to be purchased separately).

Now the details

  • The main stated goal of Stadia is to make gaming as accessible as possible. Google strives to make it possible to play on any device where Chrome is installed.
  • At the launch, Stadia will support four types of devices (in fact, three, but more is positioned): televisions, desktop PCs, laptops and smartphones (for the first time — exclusively Pixel 3 devices).
  • As it was already known earlier, all calculations will be performed in Google data centers. Recall that the company recently announced plans to invest $672 million in only one Finnish data center.
  • Stadia will support different screen resolutions. The latter will depend on the user’s internet speed. With a high connection speed of 35 Mbit/s, Stadia will be able to play games in 4K, with HDR support and with a frequency of 60 frames per second. However, with a 10 Mbit/s connection, the image resolution will drop to 720p.
  • Google is confident that its platform will also suit games that require a high response rate, like Mortal Kombat X.
  • For Stadia, a wireless gamepad will be released, specially created with the expectation of playing cloud projects (with two unique buttons: one will allow you to start streaming, and the other — Google Assistant, which will help you pass problem areas).
  • At the same time, it will be possible to play on Stadia using any controller.
  • The controller will connect directly to the servers during the game, and the picture will go separately (at the same time, Google documents specify that it requires a device with Android 8 and higher, and not just Wi-Fi). This, according to the Stadia management, will provide the best possible experience of the game within the framework of cloud technology.
  • The cost of the controller will cost $69.
  • The launch of Stadia is scheduled for November this year in 14 countries.
  • The launch line of the platform was also announced. It includes 28 titles, including Baldur’s Gate 3, Ghost Recon: Breakout, Destiny 2, Doom Eternal, The Division 2, Metro Exodus and many others.
