Danish studio Io-Interactive (IOI) has announced independence and continued work on the flagship Hitman series.
This is stated in a letter from the CEO of Io-Interactive, Hakan Abrak, posted on the company’s website.
“I am proud to announce that IOI is officially an independent studio from today. We have successfully completed our negotiations with Square Enix and agreed to buy out the management rights of the company. And we will retain all rights to the Hitman franchise,” Abrak wrote.
The head of Io-Interactive thanked fans for their support and warmly spoke about Square Enix, noting the achievements that the studio has achieved over 8 years as part of the Japanese company.
“IOI started as an independent studio, and now we’re going back to our roots,” added Abrak.
In his message, Hakan Abrak announced the continuation of work on the Hitman series and promised to tell about the studio’s future plans next week.
In May of this year, Square Enix was informed about the exclusion of Io-Interactive from the company. As reported, Square was negotiating the sale of IOI to other owners and even considered the option of liquidating the studio.
