Square Enix has announced the sale of the Danish studio Io-Interactive, known for the Hitman series.

Io-Interactive may even be closed if it does not find a buyer.

Square Enix explained this sudden decision by the need to “focus resources and energy on key franchises in order to maximize the demands of players and increase the company’s market potential.”

At the same time, Square Enix also reported that due to this decision, the company received ¥4.8 billion (about $43 million) less at the end of fiscal year 2017.

The message dated May 11 also says that Square Enix stopped working with Io-Interactive on March 31.

Square Enix has owned Io-Interactive since 2009.
