Analysts from Sensor Tower have calculated how much Epic Games’ decision not to publish its Fortnite blockbuster in the store can cost Google Play.

The amount cannot be called modest. Analysts estimate losses of $50 million. We are talking about the missing 30% of in-game content sales that Epic Games would have to share with Google for the rest of 2018.

Sensor Tower took the figure of $50 million, starting from Fortnite earnings in the App Store. Recall that the game appeared on iOS on March 15 of this year. By August, Fortnite had earned $180 million there. Apple’s share here is $54 million.

Analysts expect that at the start of Android sales, Fortnite’s indicators will not be less than those in the App Store. Moreover, Sensor Tower believes that sales may be even higher. They explain this by the increased popularity of the brand, the growing impact on revenue of combat passes (regular updates that are available for in-game currency) and the reach of the audience in those countries where it is not possible to pay for the game downloaded from traditional mobile markets.

It is strange that Sensor Tower does not take into account possible negative factors, such as the lack of support for the store, lower conversion from advertising and the official website, due to the need to install the APK, as well as the generally unclear situation with the purchase of traffic.

Fortnite for Android has not been officially released yet. Since last week, the game has been available for a limited number of devices as part of the beta version.
