In May, Sony and Microsoft announced plans to jointly develop cloud technologies. Their joint move looked like a response to the loud announcement of Google’s competitive Stadia service. This guess was confirmed by PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan (Jim Ryan).
Jim Ryan
In an interview for CNET, Ryan talked about the “Memorandum of Understanding” signed by the two companies.
The document covers a number of areas, and one of the most important is the cloud services market. According to Ryan, the “Memorandum” was a reaction to the emergence of a “new participant in the gaming sphere.” Most likely, it was about Google Stadia.
The situation is changing rapidly. If we continue to rely on the world as we have known it for the last 25 years, we seriously risk being left behind. Therefore, we must abandon prejudice and strive to do what we have not had to do yet.

Despite the alliance, both companies may also compete with each other in the cloud sphere in the future. Sony has a streaming service PlayStation Now, which it intends to “push to a new stage of development this year.” Thanks to Microsoft Azure, Sony will be able to launch PSN in previously inaccessible regions. At the same time, Microsoft is preparing a platform under the working name Project xCloud. It runs on Azure capacities.
But while Sony and Microsoft are cooperating, and their direct competitor in the cloud market – Google – promises new details about the Stadia site tomorrow. This was reported by Gamesindustry.biz .
