Owners of Apple mobile devices will not be able to play titles from the Steam library on them through the Steam Link streaming application. Apple has not allowed Valve to place the Steam Link in the App Store, according to the publication Venture Beat.

It was assumed that Steam Link would allow you to play games with Steam on mobile devices, while titles are launched on the user’s desktop and broadcast via wi-fi to a smartphone or tablet. For ease of management, Steam Link supports wireless gamepads.

Valve noted that Apple’s refusal came as a surprise to them, since the companies first came to an agreement on the Steam Link account. On May 9, Valve announced preparations for the release of the app on iOS and Android. The next day, Apple withdrew its decision and banned the Steam Link from being placed in its mobile store, citing some violation of the App Store rules that had not been revealed earlier.

Valve is confident that Steam Link does not violate the rules of the App Store.

“Steam Link functions as a remote desktop based on a local network. It is similar to many similar remote desktop applications that are already available in the App Store.

We have given a lot of effort and time to the Steam Link project, and therefore we are very disappointed with Apple’s decision. We hope that in the future they will change their minds,” Valve representatives said in a comment for Venture Beat.
