With each new version of Android, the platform’s monetization indicators are growing, according to Tapjoy. According to the company’s latest research, the ARPU of the latest version of the OS from Google has reached $1.63.
In September, Tapjoy analyzed the economic indicators of Android. As a result, the company found that the newer the version of the platform, the higher its ARPU indicator (the only exception, by and large, is the Honeycomb tablet).
Android users of budget and old devices, on which the firmware has not been updated for a long time, spend little. For example, the ARPU of users of the Eclair 2.1 version, released in January 2010, is only $0.86. This indicator of Jelly Bean is almost twice as high.
On the one hand, this is good news for Android app developers. On the other hand, it is clear that Google is not very good at realizing the potential of its own platform at the moment. After all, unfortunately, Jelly Bean is by far not the most popular version of the platform at the moment. Only 1.8% of devices on this OS are behind it. At the same time, the Gingerbread ARPU, which costs 55% of Android devices, is not the most attractive $1.20.
But not everything is so sad. From June to October, the overall fragmentation by platform versions has changed markedly. If in June Froyo was used by 19.1%, then by October their number had decreased to 12.9%. Gingerbread’s share has fallen more significantly – from 65% to the current 55.8%. The popularity of Ice Cream Sandwich has grown very well: if in June its share was 7.1%, then at the beginning of this month it was already 23.7%.
By the way, the ARPU of the latter is almost identical (but in fact, a little less) to the Gingerbread indicators – $ 1.19. Because of this, the slender Tapjoy concept is questionable.
