Ubisoft has acquired the independent game studio Blue Mammoth Games. Together with her, the company acquired the rights to the free-play online fighting game Brawlhalla, which managed to gain popularity on PC and PlayStation 4.
The amount of the transaction was not disclosed.
“We can’t wait to take advantage of Ubisoft’s capabilities to continue developing and supporting Brawlhalla, as well as to attract new players,” said Blue Mammoth Games founders Matthew Woomer and Lincoln Hamilton.
Brawlhalla was released in early access in 2015, and the official release took place in October last year.
By now, the game has become the most popular fighting game on Steam and is among the best PSN freeplay games. According to Steam Spy, more than 9 million users own the game on Steam.
In addition, Brawlhalla is developing as an esports discipline, in which world championships have been held since 2016. This year, the prize fund of the tournaments will be $ 300 thousand.
This is the second acquisition of the company in a short period of time. As it became known on March 1, Ubisoft bought developer 1492 Studios, specializing in mobile dating simulators.
The company is acquiring new assets as part of a strategy to attract new users.
