Rewarded videos are the most favorite advertising option among freeplay players. DeltaDNA experts told how to work most effectively with this format.
Add ads to gameplay
In order not to spoil the user’s impression of the game, advertising needs to be included in the gameplay. A good example of this approach is Family Guy: The Quest for Stuff. From time to time, the character Carl appears in the game. In the cartoon itself, this is a seller in a video salon, so when he offers the user to watch videos, it looks quite logical and in the spirit of the game.
Show ads strictly at a certain time
Another option that has also proven itself well is the demonstration of the video at a strictly defined time. An example is a flight simulator Flight Pilot Simulator. Ads appear only on the third level (about five minutes after the start of the game). The user is offered to watch the video and get 20% acceleration.
This opportunity is given approximately every two levels. Due to the fact that advertising does not appear before your eyes all the time, and also due to the fact that acceleration helps to pass the level, the player gets the feeling that he is offered something special and valuable every time.
Limit the number of ads
To prevent advertising from affecting the player’s desire to buy IAP, limit the number of views. A good example of such a strategy is Angry Birds 2. When the player runs out of birds, and the pigs are still not defeated, he is offered another attempt – in exchange for viewing ads. It will be possible to do this only three times per session. After that, the player will be offered to spend premium currency or start over.
