According to some reports, Valve plans to introduce age restrictions for Steam users. Persons under the age of 16 will be able to register on the gaming platform and use Steam features only with the consent of their parents or guardians.

This assumption was made on Twitter by the user WickedPlayer494. He drew attention to a change in JavaScript on the Steam authorization page. A text about parental consent and a form for specifying the parents’ email address appeared in the page code.

WickedPlayer494 suggested that Valve is thus preparing for the entry into force of the European law on user data protection GDRP. It will take effect from May 25.

Some major publishers have already introduced similar measures in preparation for the GDPR. Last week, Riot Games banned European gamers under the age of 16 from playing MOBA League of Legends without parental consent.

Those who wish to cheat and indicate a false age, Riot Games threatened to block their account.
