The independent British studio Failbetter Games reported financial difficulties, due to which they had to cut 4 employees. This is a significant loss for the staff of a small company: according to the Failbetter website, only 12 people are employed in the studio.

The difficulties are related to the poor sales of their latest project, the role—playing game Sunless Skies.

Sunless Skies appeared in Steam Early Access in August last year. According to representatives of Failbetter, players bought 6 times fewer copies of Sunless Skies compared to its predecessor Sunless Sea in the same time.

Representatives of the studio believe that they hurried with the release of early access, which is why the game did not appeal to most gamers.

Due to problems, the official release of Sunless Skies was postponed from May indefinitely. The developers promised to decide on a new release date within a month.

Failbetter also intend to close the mobile version of the browser role-playing game Fallen London and abolish its Fundbetter fund, which was created to help other indie developers.
