Mobile game publisher Gameloft has closed an office in New Orleans and laid off about 40 employees. The company has not yet announced the reasons for the liquidation of the division.

GameLoft New Orleans has worked on titles such as Cosmic Colony, World at Arms, Spiderman Unlimited and Oregon Trail: American Settler.

This is the first closure of the Gameloft studio since the company’s transition under the leadership of the Vivendi media corporation, which took place in May 2016.

Major layoffs at Gameloft took place in 2015-2016. The company closed about 10 offices and reduced 850 people − 20% of its staff.

Then the French publisher explained the mass layoffs by the need to “adapt to market conditions and increase profitability.”

Until now, the last closed division of Gameloft was an office in Valencia. It ceased to exist in April 2016.
