Sony has found another way to avoid high US tariffs on Chinese electronics. The method is obvious: the Japanese giant is thinking about transferring production from China to another country.

At the end of last month, Sony warned the US authorities about a possible increase in prices for the PlayStation. She will have to raise the cost of consoles if Chinese electronics start to be subject to high duties.

Now Sony, like many Japanese firms — for example, Ricoh and Asics — is considering the option of producing PlayStation consoles in the country, which will bypass US tariffs. This is likely to seriously hit Sony’s annual profits.

By the way, Nintendo went the same way. She partially moved the production of Switch consoles to Southeast Asia, or rather, to Vietnam, according to Bloomberg.

This spring, the administration of US President Donald Trump proposed to increase tariffs on many goods from China by up to 25% — including game consoles and accessories. And last week, Trump promised to increase the duty by 10% on almost all Chinese imports not covered by the previous tariff.
