The administration of US President Donald Trump has proposed introducing a 25% tax on “virtually all goods” imported into the country from China. The same applies to game consoles, controllers and slot machines.

Gaming devices manufactured in China were included in the new, largest “tax list” proposed by the administration. This list includes almost all goods that were not previously subject to duties, Game Daily reports.

In the future, a 25% tax on consoles and accessories will lead to an increase in prices in the American gaming market. And this is at the very time when console sales in the US have been steadily falling for several months in a row (not counting Switch). In addition, right now Sony and Microsoft are developing next—generation consoles and are preparing to launch them into mass production – in China. Although the release dates of their newest devices have not been announced, they may also fall under the American tax.

The list of goods subject to duties has not yet been approved. But its adoption may take place at a hearing as early as June 17.
