The share of owners of the Oculus Rift VR headset in August increased by 8.1% compared to the previous month and reached 43.8% of the total number of owners of virtual reality helmets among Steam users.
Its closest competitor, the HTC Vive VR headset, lost 7.7% of the audience over the last month of summer, but retained its leadership as the most popular virtual reality system on the Valve platform – 52.3% of all VR devices interacting with Steam.
The rise in popularity of the Oculus Rift is due to a $200 price reduction in March of this year. Now a set of headset and Oculus Touch controllers costs $400.
At the end of August, HTC Vive also dropped the price tag by $200, but HTC and Valve’s VR headset still loses to Facebook’s competitor in availability, remaining more expensive by $100.
