Microsoft has announced the discontinuation of the Kinect contactless controller.
Microsoft has promised to maintain support for owners of the Kinect system on Xbox.
Despite the termination of the development of a specific product, Kinect technologies are already being used in other Microsoft projects. For example, the Kinect sensor is already being used in the Microsoft Hololens mixed reality headset.
Also, the Kinect team’s achievements are used in the Cortana voice assistant, in the Windows Hello biometric facial recognition technology and the context-dependent GGV user interface (Gaze, Gesture and Voice), created for control using gaze, gestures and voice.
Since its introduction in 2010, about 35 million Kinect kits for Xbox and Windows platforms have been sold worldwide.
