Microsoft Corporation now calculates royalties for game publishers using blockchain technology based on its own Azure cloud service. According to the company, the transition to blockchain will significantly accelerate payments to publishers who release their titles on the Xbox platform.

“After the transition to blockchain, we will need only a third of the current operating capacity to operate royalties. This will provide a faster and more reliable service,” said Rohit Amberker, Director of the Financial Director of the Microsoft Royalty and Content operation division.

Microsoft noted that before the introduction of the blockchain, publishers could find out about their revenue from sales on the platform no earlier than 45 days after the end of the billing period.

Microsoft also believes that the new technology will provide greater security, accuracy and transparency of financial transactions, which, in turn, will simplify future audit procedures of the company.
