Is the subscription the future? Xbox Game Pass subscription holders will be able to play not only the old multiplatform titles in the near future, but also the latest exclusives from Microsoft Studios, starting from the day of their release.
According to Microsoft, subscription holders will get access to Sea of Thieves, Crackdown 3, State of Decay 2 and other expected titles simultaneously with the appearance of games on store shelves.
Piers Harding-Rolls, head of the gaming market research department at the analytical company IHS Markit, called this a new step in Microsoft’s struggle with its main rival, Sony and its PlayStation Network service.
Harding-Rolls added that the inclusion of exclusives in the Xbox Game Pass will generally increase the visibility of similar projects on Xbox One.
According to Daniel Ahmad, a gaming analyst at Niko Partners, Microsoft’s decision will definitely have a positive impact on the platform’s revenue: “The average console owner does not buy many games per generation — about 10. Therefore, $10 for Xbox Game Pass per month, $60 for Xbox Live Gold per year, plus spending on additional content. All this can lead to higher revenues from the service in the long run.”
The Xbox Game Pass offers owners access to a library of more than 100 games for Xbox One and Xbox 360. In Russia, a month of subscription to the Xbox Game Pass costs 600 rubles.
