Google has announced the purchase of Typhoon Studios. The developer, whose first project will be released in January, will create exclusives for Stadia.

Journey to the Savage Planet

The deal between the studio Stadia Games & Entertainment (SGE) and Typhoon reports Gamesindustry.biz .

Its cost is not called at the same time.

The entire development team of 26 people will move to SGE. It has people who worked on the original Splinter Cell and Batman: Arkham Knight, The Sims 2, Assassin’s Creed III and Far Cry 4.

Despite this, Typhoon itself is a newcomer to the market. For the past two years, she has been creating her debut project, the cooperative adventure game Journey to the Savage Planet. Next month it will be released on PC (Epic Games Store), PS4 and Xbox One. But all Typhoon titles after it will become Stadia exclusives. And they will be released later than 2020.

A big bet on Typhoon is made by the head of SGE Jade Raymond (Jade Raymond). She noted that the studio has “a lot of great ideas for the Google platform.” “An AAA-level team has gathered at Typhoon. We are acquiring it to gain an advantage in creating games that set the standard in the market, games that everyone is waiting for,” says Raymond.

At the same time, the future plans in Typhoon itself are vague. When creating future games, they will rely on the availability and cloud cover of Stadia, but they have no concrete developments yet. “We just joined, but we haven’t had any serious conversations about what will happen next,” the studio said.

Typhoon is Google’s first such acquisition for the needs of Stadia. And probably not the last. The recent release of the platform did not go as smoothly as the Internet giant expected. And one of the complaints of users and critics was the shortage of exclusive games. But how long it will take to fill the service library is an open question.
