German Chancellor Angela Merkel will open the international gaming exhibition Gamescom on August 22 in Cologne.
This is the first time when the head of the German government will launch Gamescom.
“We consider it a great honor and recognition that Chancellor Angela Merkel participated in this year’s Gamecom events. Her visit highlights the importance of the gaming industry in the cultural, digital and business life of Germany,” said Felix Falk, Managing Director of the German Association of Gaming Industry Participants.
The Chancellor’s visit is expected to lead to even more security measures at Gamescom.
Gamescom has been held annually in Cologne since 2009.
