Electronic Arts has clarified its policy regarding loot boxes in the online shooter Star Wars Battlefront II. EA assured that gamers will be able to get almost all the game content without additional investments.
The management of Electronic Arts had to explain to shareholders after the reaction of the gaming community to the beta test of Star Wars Battlefront II. The players stated that the novelty forced them to buy game items for further promotion.
EA CEO Andrew Wilson promised that for the full game price tag of $60, gamers in Battlefront II will receive three times more content than was in the original game.
He also said that EA and DICE will adjust the mechanics of game monetization, making it more balanced and honest. In particular, the best weapons and equipment in Battlefront II will be available only through gameplay.
“We have a daily dialogue with the players and plan future changes based on their wishes, and we believe this is the right way to balance the games,” Wilson said.
EA CFO Blake Jorgensen added that EA does not expect a sharp rise in revenue during the first quarter after the release of the game.
According to Jorgensen, the monetization of Battlefront II will not be a sprint, but a marathon in which the company relies not on the number of copies sold, but on stable revenue from players.
The release of Star Wars Battlefront II is scheduled for November 17.
