Electronic Arts Corporation temporarily disabled microtransactions in the online shooter Star Wars Battlefront II a few hours before the world release of the game after a scandal due to the presence of loot boxes and calls for a boycott of the game.

In an official statement, the general manager of DICE developer studio Oskar Gabrielson apologized to all Star Wars fans and promised not to include transactions until this mechanics is balanced and debugged in accordance with the wishes of the players.

Up to this point, all content can be obtained only by completing game tasks.

On the eve of the international release of Star Wars Battlefront II, players were outraged by the prices of in-game content and the amount of time it would take to get it for free. According to the calculations of gamers, it would have taken more than $ 2 thousand or 2 years of daily play for two hours a day.

At the same time, Star Wars Battlefront II itself costs $60.

As a result, the user rating of the game on the aggregator Metacritic reached an extremely low value of 0.9 points.

In addition, Star Wars Battlefront II has become the subject of an investigation by the Belgian state Gaming Commission, which wants to find out whether loot boxes are a type of gambling.

This is not the first victory of the gaming community over corporations. In March of this year, gamers dissatisfied with the prices of game items and weak feedback in the online action game For Honor forced Ubisoft to meet them halfway and make changes to the game.
