“Let the gaming industry solve the problem of loot boxes by itself. State regulation is a slippery slope,” said Sean Quinlan, a member of the House of Representatives of the Hawaii State Legislature.

According to the politician, government intervention in private entrepreneurship is always associated with the risk of excessive regulation of business. Therefore, it would be better if the industry solves this problem itself.

“We have been seeing for 15 years how DLC first appeared, then paid subscriptions, then paytuvin mechanics, but consumers still continue to pay for games. Why should the government intervene now?”, — said the Hawaiian official.

Quinlan admitted that loot boxes are not formally recognized as gambling. But he also noted that video game developers use the knowledge of human psychology to engage players, and you can’t turn a blind eye to this, because some mechanics can provoke an aggravation in people with gaming addiction.
