Amazon has found a way to circumvent the rules and the App Store commission. The company has released the Luna cloud gaming service in the form of PWA, a progressive web application. This means that the service will not appear in the store at all — a browser is enough for it to work.

Last night, the company introduced a new service for “playing in the cloud” called Luna. According to Amazon, it will work on several platforms: PC, Mac, Fire TV and iOS. The latest version has attracted close attention.

Recall: for a long time Apple did not approve of game streaming services. Nevertheless, two weeks ago, the corporation decided to relax the rules of the App Store and allowed cloud games to be released on iOS devices. There were no reservations. For example, gamers are required to download games from a subscription, and not play them directly from the cloud.

However, Amazon has found a solution.

Luna is a browser—based program that disguises itself as a classic iOS app. It works as follows: the user visits the service’s website, downloads the PWA, and an icon appears on the smartphone desktop, just like any other application. But in fact, the icon is a “web link” to a specific cloud service.

Whether the owners of other cloud gaming services will use this idea is still difficult to say. But this is not the first time that a cloud application bypasses the App Store rules. For example, Valve, the owners of the Steam Link service, convinced Apple that their application works on the principle of a “remote desktop based on a local network”, and not as a tool for “games in the cloud”.
