The Russian search giant Yandex has officially unveiled its gaming platform and announced that from today it is open to third-party developers.
The platform is called “Yandex.Games”. HTML5 projects are played on it. You can play the latter both from a desktop and from mobile devices via a browser.
It is stated that developers can independently add their games to the platform catalog. However, the latter will appear in it only after moderation. Among the mandatory requirements are integration with the Yandex.Games SDK, support for HTTPS and offline Service Worker mode.
The only type of monetization that the platform supports is advertising. At the moment, you can connect only one advertising network, from Yandex itself. However, in the official Telegram chat, a company representative clarifies that in the future, in-game payment will also appear in games. Now this feature is being tested.
The company is not ready to talk about the total size of the Yandex.Games audience, as well as about what metrics developers can count on.
On the other hand, Yandex promised that it would integrate the new platform into the main page of the search engine, into Yandex.Browser and into the Yandex application. In other words, there will be traffic.
For the first time, Yandex’s plans to re-engage in the gaming business became widely known last August, when the company posted a vacancy for “Business Development Manager (Games)”.
