Google has allowed Android developers to register in a program that reduces the commission for a portion of the amount earned on Google Play to 15%. At the same time, she told about the conditions of participation.
The main thing about the new Google Play policy:
- Google will reduce the commission from 30% to 15% from July 1 for those developers who have time to apply in advance. For those who register in the program after July 1, the commission will decrease from next month;
- according to the program, in the future, the commission from the first million dollars of all participants will be reduced from 30% to 15%;
- important: since the program comes into force from the middle of the year, in 2021 the commission of 15% applies only to the first $ 500 thousand, not a million;
- to participate in the program, the developer needs to create a group account in the Play Console. You must specify the associated accounts in it. These can be both accounts owned by the developer himself, and accounts that use elements of his brand (for example, accounts of developers of a subsidiary company). Google will take into account the total income of all these developers to calculate the commission;
- developers participating in the program can transfer applications to other developers. But the revenue from this app will be counted for each of them. In other words, it will not be possible to reduce income and save a 15% commission, even if you “get rid” of an application that is too profitable.
Recall that Google announced plans to reduce the commission in the mobile Play store in mid-March. Previously, a similar program was launched in the App Store. But Apple‘s conditions turned out to be stricter: only those developers who have earned no more than a million dollars in a year can receive a commission of 15%. Everyone else continues to give 30% of the income.
