64% of US residents aged 13 and older play video games, according to a 2017 study by the rating company Nielsen.
In 2016, this figure was 63%, and in 2012 — 58%.
Video games are gradually winning back time from other types of recreation: in 2017, Americans are ready to devote 12% of their leisure time to games, which is 1% more than a year ago.Nielsen attributes the overall rise in popularity of video games to the spread of titles such as Pokémon GO and Overwatch.
At the same time, the launch of updated consoles, such as the PlayStation 4 Pro, expands the consumer choice of available games.
According to Nielsen, 47% of players named consoles as their favorite platform. PC is the main platform for 27% of gamers, mobile devices are preferred by 26% of Americans who play.
According to the study, PC gamers spend a little more on games every month than console fans: $32.9 versus $31.1.
