The Competition Appeal Tribunal in London has decided to forward a lawsuit against Valve to court. The company is accused of "profiteering off British gamers" through Steam.

Officially, the lawsuit against Valve was filed back in 2024. At that time, activist Vicki Shotbolt, on behalf of 14 million gamers from the UK, raised claims against Steam, alleging that the digital store violates the country's antitrust laws.

The lawsuit asserts that Valve prohibits developers collaborating with Steam from selling games on other platforms at lower prices. Additionally, it forces gamers to purchase add-ons for games bought on Steam only through its store. Shotbolt believes that ultimately all this "ties" users to Steam and contributes to increasing prices.

Shotbolt demands that Valve compensates British gamers with a total of 656 million pounds sterling (897.7 million dollars).

Valve itself had previously asked the tribunal not to transfer the lawsuit to court for full proceedings.
