Korean developer and publisher of online games NCsoft reported for the 1st quarter of 2018. During this period, the company’s revenues increased by 98% compared to last year, and profits increased by as much as 585%.
In the 1st quarter, NCsoft earned $439 million and received $110 million in profit. A significant rise in profits in the company was explained by a decrease in labor costs and advertising costs.

Sales of NCsoft mobile games in the first 3 months of 2018 generated $244 million — 10 times more than the publisher earned on mobile a year earlier.
The quarterly revenues of most of the company’s PC titles, on the contrary, fell compared to last year.
The indicators of the role-playing MMO Lineage decreased the most. The 1998 game earned $26 million — 45% less than in the 1st quarter of 2017.
Financial revenues from the role-playing MMO Lineage 2 and Blade and Soul also decreased. Gaming revenue decreased by 23% and 24%.
At the same time, Aion and Guild Wars 2 went up. Guild Wars 2 revenues increased by 66% and reached $22 million, and Aion earned $17 million — 48% more than the year before.
The company explained that Aion’s revenues increased due to the new monetization scheme, and Guild Wars 2 earned more thanks to the release of the add-on.
