And in the first place in terms of income — not Fortnite.
Knives Out
Battle royals on mobile have managed to get stronger over the past two years and start earning huge sums.
According to Sensor Tower, the total revenue of the five most popular games in the genre for the specified time exceeded $ 2 billion.
A new study by the analytical firm estimates the global revenue of five battle royales released in the App Store and Google Play. They are led by Knives Out from NetEase, which has earned over $640 million since launching in November 2017.
Immediately after it comes Fortnite from Epic Games. It was released only in the App Store and earned $630 million. PUBG Mobile publisher Tencent closes the top three with earnings of $439 million.
An important point: apparently, Sensor Tower included in the calculations the earnings of Game of Peace — the “battle royale”, which Tencent released in China instead of the local PUBG. This is not directly indicated, but in the analysts’ report, the new game is referred to as “the well-known version of PUBG Mobile in China”.
Also included in the top are Garena Free Fire and Rules of Survival.
Sensor Tower also provides statistics for the first quarter of 2019 for these games. Their total revenue for the period reached $476 million, and PUBG earned the most here. Its result is $148 million, that is, it is responsible for a third of the total amount. For comparison: a quarter earlier, she earned $91 million.
As for Fortnite on iOS devices, its revenue share has decreased. In the first quarter of this year, the revenue of the game was a quarter lower than in the last quarter of the previous one. As a result, Fortnite earned $119.4 million in the first three months of 2019. This is 25% of the total revenue of battle royals.
About Knives Out — the current leader in the two-year standings among battle royals — Sensor Tower experts write that the revenue of this game also fell in quarterly terms. But they do not give the exact amount earned by her.
