66 companies earned the first million dollars on mobile apps in 2016 in the American App Store. This is almost twice as much as Google Play, where there were 39 of them.

This is reported by the analytical resource Sensor Tower.

The calculation did not take into account the income of companies from advertising.

In comparison with 2015, Google Play narrowed the gap — then the placement in the App Store brought the first million revenue to 36 publishers, while there were 14 in Google Play. Over the year, the gap decreased from 2.4 to 1.7 times.

Game publishers made up the largest category among aspiring millionaires on both platforms. On Google Play, where they accounted for 75% of the total, compared to 47% on the App Store.

Sensor Tower noted the positive dynamics of Google Play monetization, which, however, is still not enough to catch up with Apple’s platform in USA and the world, despite a wider user base and the number of app downloads.
