Games are one of the most vulnerable segments of the mobile market for fraudsters. Only in January-March of this year, marketers lost $103 million in the promotion of games due to fraud. Only the developers of the “Purchases” category have more losses.

In total, $700 million to $800 million fell into the hands of virtual pirates in the first quarter. AppsFlyer told about this in a report on mobile fraud.

Despite the constant struggle with fraud, it does not disappear anywhere. On the contrary, its presence increases from year to year.

Last year, the amount that scammers earned on fictitious downloads per quarter was $100 million less than this year. The ratio of fraudulent downloads to real ones was also more modest.

Now out of 1000 non—organic paid downloads, 115 are not real. But this is the situation in the whole market. In some cases, things are much worse. At least 12% of all mobile applications present on the market, almost a third of downloads are fraud.

Among the game downloads , the distribution is as follows:

  • in 21% of games, 10% of downloads are related to fraud;
  • 13% of games have 20% of downloads related to fraud;
  • in 10% of games, more than 30% of installations belong to fraud.

In the comments for App2Top.ru Shani Rosenfelder, head of the content department at AppsFlyer, called click-flooding and installation interception the most popular types of fraud in games. In general, bots are now widely used in the market. They have 30% of fictitious downloads behind them.
