The Grand Theft Auto gaming franchise is being promoted by its fans more actively than others, according to a new study by Newzoo on the loyalty index (Net Promoter Score, NPS) of the most popular franchises in the video game industry.
NPS shows how fans of a particular franchise tend to recommend it to others.
GTA fans like to share their passion with friends and acquaintances the most. In second place is The Legend of Zelda series, in third place is the role—playing epic The Elder Scrolls.
Top 5 titles with the highest loyalty index, Newzoo
To calculate the loyalty index, Newzoo surveyed gamers from the United States, Great Britain, Germany and France who have been playing franchise games for the past six months.
Participants were asked how willing they were to recommend games to their friends, family and colleagues on a scale from 0 to 10.
Newzoo then subtracted the percentage of the game’s opponents from the percentage of its supporters and determined the NPS for each game franchise.
NPS shows that loyalty depends on gender and whether they pay for the game or not. Statistics show that solvent gamers are more likely to advise games to others than those who manage to play for free.
The gender of gamers also affects the NPS. For example, men are more likely to recommend the Madden NFL hockey simulator, while women are more likely to recommend playing Call of Duty shooters. In the Zelda series, the NPS index turned out to be almost the same for both sexes.
