How much time mobile users spend in games, the genres they prefer, how much they leave in projects – the answers to these questions depend on the country. So says Danielle Levitas, Vice President of Research at App Annie.

Time

On average , the situation around the world is as follows:

  • mobile gamers play 4 games a month;
  • one game is launched per day;
  • 10% of the most active users spend an hour a day on games.

But in Japan and South Korea, the situation is different. There, the most active gamers play for 3 hours a day. Without taking into account these countries, the average active user spends much less in games per day – 33 minutes.

The most popular mobile genres today are RPG and strategy. Both segments together account for 50% of Google Play revenue. That’s just the distribution of income from genres is very different from the place.

With RPG, the app store in South Korea receives 60% of revenue, and in Japan – 35%. At the same time, in the USA, the share of role-playing games in the market’s income is much lower and comparable to puzzles.

The opposite is also true: the strategy genre, which is very popular in the USA and the UK, earns less in Asian countries than action games.

The average monthly ARPU for 30 leading games also differs greatly from the region. And the top projects in each of the tops are also different.

The leader in average income per user per month is China, where the amount is about $ 23. Fantasy Westward Journey has the largest ARPU in the Chinese market.

This top partly correlates with the top of the leading countries in terms of revenue from games in general. Except that China has not yet outstripped Japan and the United States in it.
