Last year, mobile app publishers App Store and Google Play earned $ 35 billion. Taking into account third-party Android stores and advertising, they received $89 billion in 2016. Most of the money came from the games.
App Annie told about this in its report on the mobile market for 2016. By revenue, the company’s analysts understand payments to publishers of mobile programs from the platforms.
The combined revenue growth of mobile apps on the App Store and Google Play was 40%. 75% of all App Store revenue came from games. The share of games in Google Play revenue turned out to be even greater – 90%.
In 2016, people spent 25% more time on mobile devices than a year earlier. They also made more downloads – by 15%. In total, in 2016, users downloaded applications 90 billion times.
In developed countries, the dynamics of downloads no longer shows high rates (in Japan, it is completely negative). Despite this, they continue to rapidly increase the amount of time spent by users on mobile devices and application revenue.
According to the results of 2016, India turned out to be the country in which the most “hung out” for Android devices. Brazil is in second place, and the USA is in third.
The same countries were in the Top 3 in terms of global downloads from Google Play. Russia, by the way, was in fifth place. A year ago, it was ranked fourth, but at the end of 2016 it lost its place to Indonesia.
The top 10 leading countries for downloads from the Apple App Store are very different. It has only three countries in common with the top Google Play: the USA, Russia and Brazil.
But if we compare the dozens of the most profitable countries on Google Play and the App Store, the total number of participants is 9. The only country that is not in the box office Top 10 of Google Play is China, where the official Android app store is almost not represented.
