Words With Friends is twice as popular as Temple Run and Angry Birds, and tablets generate three times more traffic than smartphones, analysts at ByteMobile say in their February report.
Every quarter, ByteMobile, a division of Citrix, publishes data received from mobile operators. The purpose of regular research is to help operators find out which types of cellular use dominate the market, what is the demand for, and so on.
But the reports are of interest not only for operators, but also for mobile developers. For example, ByteMobile found out that on a day out of 10 smartphone users connected to the network, 4 play Words With Friends, 2 play Temple Run, 1.5 try their hand at Angry Birds, 1 make a chain in Bejeweled and 1 lays out cards in Solitaire.
It also turned out that one day out of 10 users, only 2 will visit the App Store (Google Play was not included in the sample at all, despite the fact that the study also concerned this platform). Another 4 users will definitely check their page on one or another social network. What will most users do? 6 out of 10 will use a smartphone to get information (news, weather, blogs, maps).
ByteMobile said in a report that tablets connected to the network generate 3 times more traffic than smartphones. Moreover, iOS tablets consume the same 3 times more data than Android tablets. In concrete figures, everything looks like this: an Android smartphone accounts for about 5 MB per day, an Android tablet – 9.3 MB, an iPhone – 13 MB, an iPad – 33 MB.
Despite this, the total indicator of traffic consumed by Android is greater. And one average user of Google’s OS accounts for one and a half times more traffic per day than one average iOS user.
