The first data appeared about the next device in the Nexus line – a super-budget solution for an amount more familiar to “tablets” from Chinese noname manufacturers.

When in October Google announced a reduction in the cost of the 16 GB version of the Nexus 7 tablet to $199, the fate of the 8 GB version was in question. Its cost could be reduced either to $99, or, which seemed more realistic, to $159, as Amazon did, for example, with the first generation Kindle Fire. As a result, the tablet was simply withdrawn from sale.

But thanks to the BGR website, it became known that very soon a device from Google with Asus for $ 99 may appear on the market. The novelty will be slightly inferior to the Nexus 7 in terms of characteristics: A 7-inch screen with a resolution of 1024 by 600 pixels, a 1 Ghz single-core processor, 1 GB of RAM, 8 GB of flash memory, an ancient Mali-400 MP video chip and, attention, a micro SD slot. The tablet will work on Android 4.1.1.

At this stage, this is nothing more than rumors (BGR journalists took information about the characteristics of the gadget from the GLBenchmark test results). But if companies do release a tablet at this price, it will become the strongest driver of the market. “Tablets” will finally turn into devices “for everyone” and completely replace “readers”.
