Yesterday, May 15, the Google I/O 2013 conference opened in San Francisco. Naturally, there were figures indicating the continued growth of the Android platform, and loud announcements. But let’s talk about everything in order.
Sundar Pichai, Google vice president in charge of Android, Chrome, Apps, said that in 2012 the number of Android activations amounted to about 400 million, so the total user base of this OC exceeded 900 million. The number of app downloads from Google Play has reached 48 billion. In April alone, users downloaded programs from this store 2.5 billion times. According to Sundar Pichai, Google has already paid 2.5 times more to app developers in 2013 than in the whole of 2012.
As previously expected, the social gaming platform Google Play game services was announced at I/O 2013. Its main features are cloud saving, “achievements”, result tables and multiplayer. Unfortunately, the demonstration of a multiplayer game using the example of Riptude GP 2 at the presentation was not very successful. We also add that yesterday the service was put into operation, and its support has already been introduced into the products of companies such as Gameloft, Glu Mobile, Get Set Games, Pocket Gems and Vector Unit.
