According to the results of the third quarter of this year, 75% of the global smartphone market belongs to Android.
According to the analytical company IDC, in the period from July to September 2012, more than 181 million smartphones were delivered to the world market. Of these, 136 million devices have Android, which is more than 75%. In comparison with the same period last year, the number of smartphones delivered has almost doubled (by 91.5%). And the platform has reached these astronomical figures exactly by the fifth anniversary of its release.
“Android has been one of the main drivers of smartphone market growth since the launch of the platform in 2008. Every year since then, the platform has effectively outpaced the growth rate of the market and selected competitors’ shares,” explains Ramon Llamas, director of research at IDC in the field of mobile electronics.
However, Windows Phone showed the highest growth dynamics – 140%. At the moment, this platform owns 2% of the mobile market with shipments of 3.6 million devices.
