NPD found that 59% of mobile gamers in the United States prefer their pocket gadgets for entertainment, and 30% buy improvements and IAP.
According to a Mobile Gaming 2012 study conducted by the NPD Group in August, of those who play on mobile devices, 23% do not play on anything other than this. Another 59% sometimes spend time at consoles and PCs, but mostly play on smartphones, tablets.
In this regard, Liam Callahan, one of the NPD analysts, noted that mobile gamers can be converted, arousing their interest in other platforms (here, first of all, we are talking about consoles), where the profit from one player is much greater.
Anyway, 37% of mobile players who noted that they started playing more than last year explained this by the availability of free games. So today one of the main tasks for any mobile developer is to make users pay.
Considering that 30% of users stated that they improved the game to the full version or made an in–game purchase – not everything is so bad. Of those who pay, the normal price for the game was called, on average, $ 3.
NPD experts also found that tablet users are more willing to pay for content than smartphone users.
A total of 5,900 respondents participated in the survey.
