Yandex has started a long-term cooperation with Riot Games on the esports line. And at the same time received exclusive rights to broadcast League of Legends tournaments in Russia and the CIS.
It is not known how much this transaction cost. According to Igromania, the cooperation of the companies will last more than a year.
Yandex will broadcast with its own monetization:
- League of Legends World Championship matches;
- The Continental League and the Open Cup of the Continental League;
- student league;
- Rift Rivals, All-Star and Mid-Season Invitatonal tournaments.
All this will be shown on the LoL Esports RU channel on the Yandex.Ether platform. Within the framework of Yandex.Ether, major esports tournaments have already been broadcast, for example, on Dota 2.
The global audience of League of Legends is 100 million people, according to estimates by Riot Games. The World Championship in this discipline is one of the largest esports competitions. So, last year, 99.6 million viewers watched the broadcast of the final match of the World Cup.
At the same time, the Russian esports audience base is the third in the world, according to NewZoo analysts. In 2018, 22.3 million people watched esports matches in Russia.
