Amazon Game Studios recently announced four iOS games: Lost Within, Til Morning’s Light, Tales From Deep Space and To-Fu Fury.
The American retailer planned the release last year, but until recently it was assumed that the projects would be designed for the company’s own platform – Fire OS. Then, when more became known about the games, it turned out that, firstly, they would all be of “console quality” – and for this purpose they would be produced by studios that had previously produced titles for consoles. And secondly, the games will be released not only on Fire OS, but also on iOS.
Why the “apple” platform?
At first glance, the decision to abandon exclusive projects for its own platform looks strange. However, if you delve into the details, then such a choice begins to seem right. The company made a choice in favor of paid games without IAP, and the platform where such games are traditionally featured, promoted, win awards and first places – enjoy attention – is iOS. At the same time, the announced games will not appear on Google Play, so some illusion of exclusivity still persists.
Will such a strategy be advantageous for Amazon – it will be possible to understand in the near future: as we have already mentioned, the company’s projects for iOS are about to appear on the market.
Note that in September, the company has already tried to launch on iOS. She published the game Sev Zero: Air Support. The title was shareware, came out on the iPad and turned out to be a failure.
