Valve, as promised, has released its own “Auto Chess” — an autobattler based on a mod for Dota 2. The project is called Dota Underlords.
As Valve writes in its blog, the novelty is already available to Dota 2 battle pass owners as part of a “stress test”. In another week, the game will open to everyone on Steam, the App Store and Google Play. At the same time, the game will become cross-platform, and progress in it will be synchronized between devices.
The mechanics of Dota Underlords are identical to Dota Auto Chess. It is also based on turn-based battles for eight players. In each session, after the pair fights, the last surviving player wins.

The Valve project also has a training PvE mode with different difficulty levels and the ability to play in groups with friends and bots.
A week later, at the start of the open beta, a rating matchmaking will appear in Dota Underlords.
Valve decided to release the game after looking at the success of the custom mod from Drodo Studios. The latter not only increased the Dota 2 audience by 23%, but also became the founder of a new genre.
Dota Underlords will have no shortage of competitors. Firstly, Dota Auto Chess was released as a separate mobile game Auto Chess. Its downloads, according to Sensor Tower, have reached 1.5 million since its release in May this year. Soon the game will appear on the desktop.
And secondly, Riot Games is developing a similar project. It will be called Teamfight Tactics and will be a mode for League Legends. Its launch will take place on June 25.
