Valve went to meet the game studios. Starting today, the Steam Playtest function has officially started working in her store. With its help, developers can invite users to test games without keys and external mailings.

According to the company, Steam Playtest appeared in response to numerous requests from developers. They say that earlier game authors had to look for various and not always convenient ways to give temporary access to the game to a limited number of users: from posting demos to creating keys.

Now developers can invite players to the title test directly on its page in the Valve store. According to the Steam team, this will not affect either the reviews for the game or the wish list.

What else is known about Steam Playtest:

  • the feature works completely free for both gamers and developers. But it is still in the beta test stage. So anyone who wants to use it should inform the Steam support team about it.;
  • developers can decide for themselves how many people should join their team to test the game. If desired, they will then be able to manually invite additional players;
  • the start and end dates of the test are also determined by the developers themselves;
  • Steam Playtest does not cancel all other existing tools like generated keys, early access, launching a prologue game and other things. Developers can still use them if they consider it necessary.

Rumors that a playtest may appear on Steam began to circulate in the summer. It was then that a button with an invitation to testing appeared in Total War: Elysium. But the store has officially announced the launch of the Steam Playtest beta test only now.
