As part of GDC 2019, Unity announced the AR Foundation update package for Unity Editor. It is needed to simplify the creation of applications and games with augmented reality support, designed for both iOS and Android.
In fact, the novelty from Unity will make it easier for developers to use ARKit (Apple’s platform) and ARCore from (Google’s platform). AR Foundation will combine a number of APIs. The new version will allow you to create one version of the software and immediately test it on the selected device. Also, several useful utilities will be available as part of the update package.
AR Foundation will help to significantly save time and resources when developing software with augmented reality support. According to VentureBeat, in the future this will allow the software to be distributed to a wider audience at discounted prices. Now, according to Unity, AR supports a billion smartphones worldwide. Revenue from augmented reality may eventually exceed revenue from VR, Unity believes.
The AR Foundation package will be released in the middle of this year along with version 2019.2 for Unity Editor.
