At GDC 2019, Unity announced the purchase of Belgian Graphine, a developer of graphics software and real—time texture visualization tools. The cost of Graphine and other details of the transaction were not disclosed.
Graphine has created the Granite SDK with support for the Unity and Unreal Engine game engines. This set of tools allows you to use ultra-high resolution textures, as well as optimize the loading time of games. Granite SDK is also able to reduce the amount of memory that the game takes up by compressing textures.
According to Pocket Gamer, this SDK can be used when creating games for PS4, Xbox One, PC, Mac, Android and Linux. It was he who was involved in the creation of the open world Conan Exiles from Funcom. Wargaming also acquired a license for the Granite SDK three years ago.
