Unity has launched the Cloud Content Delivery service. It is primarily focused on mobile and will allow developers to simplify the process of updating and developing games. It can also be used to deliver content to specific user groups or regions.

The new service combines a content delivery network (CDN) and a Baas platform. At the same time, Cloud Content Deliver is not tied to Unity and will be available to customers of other game engines.

Felix Thé, vice president of product at Unity, notes that their new cloud service will also improve the experience of ordinary players. The company believes that gamers will no longer have to download huge files with every update.

Also, Cloud Content Delivery will allow developers to make point updates and deliver content focused on specific players or markets. The new Unity service can be used for large-scale updates, as well as for testing individual mechanics or conducting soft-launches.

“Cloud Content Delivery scales easily and allows you to share multiple updates between technical specialists and other team members, ensuring that you can accelerate the launch of the product and pay additional attention to the next stage of the creative process and improve the quality of the game, explains Felix Thé, vice president of product at Unity.

The new Unity service can be used on all platforms, but the company itself is aimed primarily at mobile game developers. “We prefer to focus on a separate segment at the launch of the service, and then decide how we will expand its functions. The mobile sector now needs such a tool more than others, says Ti.

The pricing policy of Cloud Content Delivery will be as transparent as possible. Developers have trial 50 GB available in the cloud, and they will have to pay $0.08 for each additional gigabyte. When using large volumes, the price will decrease — for example, the price per gigabyte for 500 TB storage will be $0.03.

At the same time, the new service will not have regional prices, hidden services or subscriptions of different levels. Ti explains the company’s decision with the desire to allow developers to think only about creating content, and not calculate prices on a calculator.
